The surrounding area offers an infinite array of possibilities for an authentic Tuscan vacation according to your preferences and desires.
Those who enjoy cycling can ride to the sea or to the pine woods in Marina di Bibbona (only 4 kilometres away), ride the trails to Marina di Cecina and take advantage of the shade provided by the secular pine trees only a few meters from the beach.
The "Macchia della Magona", a splendid 1,600 hectares natural Mediterranean park with 16 different trails, is only 3 kilometres away.
The Viale dei Cipressi is only 5 kilometres away and it is the avenue leading to Bolgheri celebrated in a poem by the famous Italian poet Giosué Carducci. Bolgheri, as per a survey of a famous American magazine, is one of the 5 places all over the world where one would want to go and live.
The Via Bolgherese (the Wine Road) winds parallel to the ancient Via Aurelia across the countryside scattered with chestnut trees. Along this road it is possible to visit various wine vineyards that produce some of the most renowned Italian wines.
The Wine Road is a trip through a prosperous wine making territory characterised by vineyards and farms, as well as other natural, cultural and historical attractions, all of which combined to create an complete wine-related tourism experience.
The Etruscan Coast Wine Road is a celebration of fine wines, young and enthusiastic wine makers and, above all, the territory itself. It is situated in a strip of land parallel to the sea, fortunate enough to possess all that a visitor could ever hope to find: medieval villages, where life still continues at a tranquil pace, hills blanketed with forests inhabited by wild boars, fallow and roe deer, panoramas combining the green vegetation with the intense blue of the sea, a cheerful, hospitable population and natural foods that seduce the visitors with the flavours of wine, and the fruits of this bountiful land. The Wine Road crosses paths with cultural, environmental, wine+food itineraries that boast a perfect integration of the spiritual and the material.
Those who love nature will enjoy the many other important natural parks in the area, such as the WWF Oasis in Bolgheri and the coastal parks in Rimigliano and Sterpaia. The Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia (Etruscan Necropolis and Acropolis), the Archaeological Museum of Populonia and the Archaeological Mining Park of San Silvestro are also attractions not to be missed.
In addition to all of these beautiful places to visit on the Etruscan Coast, those who love the sea can also visit the Isle of Elba and other islands in the Tuscan Archipelago Park departing from the Port of Piombino, or take part in an organised tour by bus with tourist guide.
The many medieval towns and villages of the nearby hinterland, such as Casale Marittimo, Montescudaio, Castagneto Carducci, Bolgheri, Campiglia Marittima and Suvereto, are all worthy of visiting. Volterra, an authentic Etruscan, Roman and Medieval gem of a town with an important museum, is alos located nearby and the marvellous San Gimignano is less than one hour’s drive away.
And then there are Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Firenze… all possible destinations for a daily excursion.
